Something for the Holidays From Danniel Oickle
— Fri, 30/11/2012 - 00:01
Multi-talented local artist/performer Danniel Oickle has a special holiday treat for his fans this season. He is releasing his recording of “Greensleeves” on Dec. 1 for download and via YouTube. Following on the heels of his recently launched book of poetry “My Heart Has Teeth,” Danniel’s rendition of this centuries-old classic embodies a different take on the drama and intensity of much of his other work.
Danniel is known in and outside of Ottawa as a prolific singer, poet and poly-media artist with a distinctive flair and a sensual edge. In the video for his version of the song (found below) fans will notice a departure from his accustomed visual style -- a juxtaposition of scenes of natural northern beauty with images of destruction, in place of the raw in-your-face energy of his other music videos. “I wanted to capture both sides of the holiday season,” said Danniel. “During the holidays we focus on love and happiness, but there’s also loneliness and desolation. I wanted to show different representations of the season.”
Danniel chose “Greensleeves” because “it’s holiday appropriate, but you can still listen to it in April.” For an extra personal touch, he invited his mother to record the guitar and background vocals that provide a haunting counterpoint to his dusky melody.
“Greensleeves” by Danniel Oickle will be available for download from iTunes, Amazon, ReverbNation, CBC Music and CD Baby on Dec. 1, 2012.
